How To ~ Use PageMaker

PageMaker is what is used in the Publishing industry. The skills you learn here are directly transferable to a future job. Because PageMaker is so powerful you have to be more careful about how you put your documents together. Here are some of the operations you will need to know to avoid problems.
File names
File names should tell the people who have to work with your file what page(s) the file contains.
eg: p006-007.p65
(.p65 is automatically added by PageMaker)
Blurry pictures
Click File > Preferences > General. In the Graphics display group choose High resolution

If pictures are still not clear you have a bad picture

Picture Frames
click on the Frame tool and draw a frame on your document
Click on the Pointer tool and choose the picture frame to insert the picture into.
 
Click on File > Place and navigate to find the picture you want to use.
Choosing Pictures
  1. Choose the picture you want to use from the I:\everyone\yearbook directory
  2. Ask the picture editor/s (Beth or Lisa) to move them for you
  3. you will find them in I:\everyone\yearbook\submission
  4. edit the picture with PhotoShop and save changes to same directory

Placing Pictures
  1. Click on Picture box in PageMaker and note size in Contol Panel ~ below

  1. Open picture in PhotoShop
  2. Crop/Resize picture if needed
  3. Adjust width ~or~ height to match PageMaker box
  4. Crop remaining height ~or~ width to match PageMaker box
  5. Deselect Resample and
    change Resolution to 300
  6. Reselect Resample
  7. Save picture and close PhotoShop
  8. Place adjusted picture in PageMaker box

adjust crop selection to 20.9 Picas wide

Printing
Choose File > Print to display the dialogue box at right.

Click
Change the settings to match what is shown
Size = Letter
Deselect Printer's marks
Deselect Page information
Deselect Center page
Change Scale to
Reduce to fit

Click Print ~ allow 10 min. to print ~ or ~ more if there a lot of graphics
