How To ~ Use a Digital Camera

Fine photograph (highest quality)
is important to get high enough quality for yearbook publication - automatic flash, autofucus, no exposure compensation, an image quality of "Best" and an image size of "full" (1600x1200 pixels).
  • set mode dial to A (automatic)
  • control panel indicates the number of pictures left.
  • battery.jpg (2175 bytes) indicates a full battery charge
  • p.gif (1323 bytes) indicates Program mode
  • indicates matrix light metering. The light calculation is made from the entire scene.
  • half press shutter-release button to focus
  • fully press shutter-release button to take photo

Mode dial

Red eye reduction
reduce the "red eye" effects a flash can cause. A pre-flash lamp fires before the main flash.
  • press to select

Closeups
use this setting if the subject is closer than 12" (30cm), but not closer than 1" (2 cm).

Image sensitivity
is used to reduce blurring of fast moving objects
  • turn mode dial to M-REC
  • hold down
  • turn the Command dial. The Control Panel will display +1.0 or +2.0 as sensitivity increases.

is used for a higher degree of control
  • turn mode dial to M-REC
  • hold down
  • turn the Command dial. Cycle through
    Program
    produces the best results in most circumstances
    Aperture priorty
    high f-numbers - increase focus depth & lower shutter speed. low f-numbers - blur backgrounds & increase range of flash
    Shutter priority
    changes shutter speed from 1/500 sec. to 8sec. High shutter speeds = large apertures
Adjusting white balance
changes how the whites in photographs appear. Programs for different types of light are available.
  • turn mode dial to M-REC
  • press the MENU button to display the shooting menu
  • use to highlight WHITE BAL
  • rotate the Command dial

Creating new folders
is used to keep your photos seperate from others. Use your userid, Crystal Campbell would use campc.
  • turn mode dial to A-REC and press the MENU button
  • turn the Command dial to highlight the first letter to change
  • cycle through letters with
