How To ~ Sell Advertising

You are an ambassador for your school, represent the school well. Remember your parents shop in the businesses you are visiting.
1. You are selling a product
yearbook advertising is a service offered for a price, not a donation, so you don't need to feel embarrased. Advertising is an expense businesses budget for and is tax deductable.
2. Renewal sales are the easiest
Show the business owner last years ad and ask if it could be renewed.
3. If nobody can help you
Make an appointment and write it down; the persons name, phone number, date, and time to return. You should arrange an appointment for after school or on the weekend when you can return with a friend or parent.
4. Show business owners the yearbook
Explain how the ads have candids with them to attract attention. Also that Shuswap normally sells about 500 high quality hard cover books each year. With an average family size of 4 that is 2000 readers that will see the ad for years to come, plus the ads are posted on the school webserver for global access.
5. The 1/8 page (business card) ad size
is the easiest to sell, is the least expensive for the customer and the most profitable for the yearbook. We provide a free yearbook to full page ads only.
6. Fill out the sales agreement accurately
check to see that the carbon paper is working, PRESS HARD. Cheques made out to Shuswap Jr. Sec. School are preferred, but will take cash. If charging/pay later ask for a $10.00 deposit if possible and get a date for billing,   write it on the Sales Agreement. Give original (top copy) to customer, put carbon copy into envelope with advertising and payment.
7. Return all envelopes to Yearbook Advisor
envelopes will be locked in the school safe until Sales team and Advisor can sit down together to resolve each account.
8. Don't be discouraged
store owners get a lot of requests for "donations," your request may be just the wrong thing at the wrong time. We are all rude and impolite sometimes. Be polite and sincere and come back later if you feel it is worth it.
